When the waterworks go wrong in any house it can be a traumatic experience which nearly inevitably needs to be dealt with quickly and at not too much cost. To find a good tradesman, the obvious answer is to ask the neighbours. Get talking because here are three reasons why you need a good local plumber.
1. Most householders can be bamboozled when any plumbing problem arises and money worries can lead to unqualified work being done which can result in a lot of expensive damage.
2. The plumber may not be able to help you. Always check that any tradesman is qualified and experienced enough to fix the problem. The Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI. For more information about plumbers who are qualified to fit, service or repair gas appliances, visit the Gas Safe Register website.
3. Plumbing work can be expensive. Always get a fully explained written quote.
Also make sure that the each plumber in a company has adequate insurance and is licensed. This is important because, while a company may have some licensed plumbers, other technicians employed by the same company may not have earned the same certifications.
Online reviews of local tradesmen can be found at many websites these days, which provide opinions of previous customers to help with any search. You should bear in mind that these listings are purchased by the tradesmen concerned. Recommendations from friends will be more reliable.
It is always better to be prepared so get together a list of the ’tame’ tradesmen in your area who are solving plumbing problems simply.
Checking out ’Senna’, it was impossible not to be motivated by his courage, dedication and faith. Having said that, his win at all costs attitude made a scary person to race against.
A three time world champion in Formula 1, Ayrton Senna was also a successful businessman who raised millions of dollars for Brazilian children with his Instituto.
He kicked off his career in Karting and, when asked about the driver he most enjoyed competing against, the Briton, Terry Fullerton, a former team mate was the person that he named. After winning the World Championship in 1980, he moved to racing cars and lived in England whilst he was winning the 1982 British and European Formula Ford 2000 championships..
Senna drove for both Toleman and Lotus before Ron Dennis took him on at McLaren in 1988. He was the second driver to Alain Prost but his performance over that season pushed the Frenchman hard, resulting in arguments.
At the Monaco Grand Prix, he qualified faster and then led for most of the race, before crashing on lap 67. In Portugal, there were some high speed shenanigans between the two which resulted in a warning for the Brazilian from the FIA and an apology by Senna. Between them they won 15 of the 16 races that year and Senna won his first World Championship.
In 1989, the rivalry intensified and it all came down to the penultimate race of the season in Japan, where Prost collided with Senna but the Brazilian was able to restart his car and rejoin the race - meaning that he had won the title. Prost appealed and the FIA disqualified Senna for being on a part of the track that was not included in the race. Senna was disgusted by the politics coming into the sport.
Prost left the team to join Ferrari but he was still going head to head with Senna for the World Championship and again it came down to the penultimate race in Japan. Senna did enough in qualifying to gain pole position only to be told by the FIA that this would now be on the dirty side of the track, with his rival, Prost, getting second place but on the clean side.
Senna was livid and, when they arrived at the first corner, he tried to pass the Frenchman, who cut him up. The two collided at 170mph and spun off the track, making Senna world champion.
In 1991, he won the title for the third time, the youngest person to have done so but 1992 and 1993 proved a far more testing time with the rise of the Williams cars, through their superior technology.
Senna signed for Williams-Renault in 1994, ending his long association with Ron Dennis of McLaren but changes to the rules for that season had banned the active suspension, ABS and traction control which had made the cars so unbeatable.
Regretfully, the removal of the technology also made the cars hard to manoeuvre and it was Senna’s worst ever start to a season in terms of points gained - even though he had managed pole position for both the first two races.
The fateful race at San Marino was held over the weekend at the end of April/beginning of May.
First the Jordan of Senna’s friend, Rubens Barrichello flew through the air and hit the fence and protective tyres giving him a broken nose and arm.
On the Saturday, young driver, Roland Ratzenberger was tragically killed during qualifying when his front wing broke off whilst he was driving at full speed around a bend forcing him to crash into a wall.
It was after this that Senna’s friend, Prof Sid Watkins suggested that they stop racing and just go fishing but Senna replied that he couldn’t.
During the film, you can see Senna preparing for the race. He looks concerned.
There was a huge accident right at the start resulting in injuries to in the grandstand from a stray tyre.
Senna took the lead on the restart and built up a lead. You can watch the final moments of his life on the in-car camera as he does the thing he loves most - driving.
Then it goes black, just he goes into Tamburello corner. All the drivers agreed that it was not the place where you were likely to have a crash but his car does not negotiate the bend at all. It goes straight off. He crashes straight into a concrete retaining wall at around 135mph.
It takes just under two minutes for the medics to arrive and you can see the footage of him just sitting in his car and twitching. They are followed by Professor Watkins.
Later Watkins said that he knew it was a fatality from the gravity of the head injury.
It is thought that, in the crash, parts of the car were forced back into the cockpit piercing his helmet.
What actually caused the accident is still unknown although there is talk that the steering column may have broken off or the power steering failed.
Watkins went on to become chairman of The FIA Expert Advisory Safety Committee.
There has not been a driver fatality in Formula 1 ever since.
Due to the fact that no two irises are the same and their structure does not change after birth, they have become the ultimate in secure identification.
Like the feet in reflexology, every part of the body is represented in a particular area of the iris. Therefore the fiber structure or any marks or discolourations can be nature’s way of revealing inherited strengths and weaknesses, as well as over or under activity of certain areas of the body.
Using the iris as a diagnostic tool is called Iridology and the different patterns of the eye fibers can be a way to discover both the personality of a person, their genetic make up and how effectively the person’s organs and systems are working.
The iris caused by a series of exposed nerve endings. These connect to the brain and can be used by Iridologists to determine if there is inflammation or toxicity in the body
Back in the early 1800s, a young Hungarian boy called Ignaz von Peczely captured an owl and he noticed that the bird had a dark mark in the iris of the eye which was on the same side as the leg he had broken. When the leg healed, the mark in the iris disappeared.
He grew up to become a doctor and his careful drawings revealed that all of his patients who had liver problems all had a mark at 8 o’clock in their right eye and this became the liver reflex.
Other areas of interest in Iridology are: Just outside the edge of the pupil is the stomach area in both eyes. It can be a pale orange which shows a low or under acid stomach ring. A low acid stomach can keep you from absorbing calcium and protein.
More recently Iridology seems to have begun in the United States in the 1950s but there is very little documented evidence to say that it works.
However, like many complementary or alternative treatments, that could be because there is no interest in spending money on something which can not be sold on a pharmacy’s shelves.
Iridology is an inexpensive aid to diagnosis and many practitioners use such consultations to confirm the findings of their main therapeutic skill, for example japanese acupuncture. It permits them to consider a patient’s susceptibility to future illnesses
Horse Iridology
In the equine world, many owners use it if a horse starts to behave strangely.
